Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Ceremony to be held on Friday, March 27th.

February 13, 2020 by Staff

Vietnam War Commeration

The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration honors all United States veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces from November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975, regardless of location.  Across the Nation, a generation of warriors and their families are being publicly thanked and honored for their service and sacrifice during the Vietnam War.

The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies will hold a Vietnam War Veteran Commemoration Ceremony on Friday, March 27, 2020 at 9:00am.  We would like to publicly thank and honor all those who served during the Vietnam War.  The ceremony will be held at the assembly area across from the Public Information Center.

If you served on active duty any time between November 1, 1955 and May 15, 1975, you are eligible to be presented with an official Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pin. This “lasting memento of the Nation’s thanks” is now proudly worn by more than 2 million previously unheralded patriots!

If you or someone you know served during the Vietnam War and was not recognized, please pass this information to them so we can thank them for their service.

November 14, 2018 by Staff

Article for Download

Caring & Sharing Pittsburgh invited Three Rivers Leathernecks to participate again in the river cruise it hosts annually for four days after Labor Day for Veterans.  Detachment 310 performed a rifle salute while Taps played after a memorial wreath was dropped at The Point by the Cooties on Friday, September 8, 2018.  Bob Abbott, Caring & Sharing Pittsburgh President for the past 13 years, sat at the reception desk, greeting the Veterans from various areas of the greater Pittsburgh area including Erie and West Virginia.  Bob, a former Marine served for three years and did a tour in Korea, has volunteered with Caring & Sharing for 32 years.   This well-organized event comes together only with the participation of 17 different organizations volunteering.  The Salvation Army Disaster Relief provided hot coffee and donuts first thing in the morning.  The Cooties presented a $2,000 check to Caring & Sharing.

A Tribute to the Vietnam Fallen Heroes

July 12, 2017 by Staff

The township of Hampton, PA, hosted the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, more commonly known as the ‘Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall’.  Phil Cerussi, #310’s Adjutant, volunteered to participate and act as an ambassador/guide.  Other members of the Three Rivers Detachment also attended the opening ceremony held the evening of June 29th.  Christopher Lochner, Municipal Manager for Hampton Township, said he raised well over the $11,000 donation from private or corporate donations to have the wall brought here.  The wall will be open to the public at no charge, 24/7 from June 30 until the closing ceremony on July 4th, 12:00 noon.  This is one of the two traveling walls in the United States, both are non-profit.  There are 58,272 names listed on this Memorial of which 1,200 of these names are listed as MIA, POW or others; and, it represents only eighty percent of the souls lost.

The legislation for the permanent ‘wall’ located in the Constitution Gardens in Washington DC near the Lincoln Memorial was signed by President Jimmy Carter on July 1, 1980.  It took three and half years to build the Memorial.
