Third Annual Pasta Fund Raiser for Three Rivers Leathernecks
The day started early with the Detachment members busily setting up under the supervision of Janet Lindner, Joe Wadlow, Karl Wilzer and Gerry Kunick.
Joe Wadlow, co-owner of Monte Cello restaurant, provided the food and instructed the members on how to be professional buffet line servers. Among the volunteers were the Washington Young Marines, under the direction of Don Bailey and is currently being sponsored by the Three Rivers Detachment.
On display for sale were various Marine apparel items by Rick Barzen, Quarter Master and checked out by Jim Hughes. Dessert cakes were provided by Lincoln Bakery and distribution supervised by Rose Popovich and Karen Barzen. Greatly missed was life member, Rita Weiss, our chief baker, who was unable to attend.
The 50/50 raffle headed by Bob Timet drew a record number with $475 going to winner John Ramusen. A special handmade quilt by master quilter, Donna Wilzer, was won by Betty Muschar. Another special auction item was a metal art sculpture donated by award winning, Gene Lyle, and won by Phil Cerussi. At the end of the day, after serving nearly 300 people, Matt Popvich thanked all the member and volunteers who help make this another big success and well worth the efforts.

Daughters of the American Revolution Celebrate the 125th Anniversary with a Festive Ball
Theresa Mell Erickson, daughter of Robert L. Mell III a beloved member of #310, attended a MCL meeting to talk
about the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She invited members of the Three Rivers Detachment to attend the gala event. Commandant Matt Popovich and member Rick Barzen accepted the invition; they would escort ladies arriving without a companion to the ballroom. Theresa is Membership Chair of the Pittsburgh Chapter and is very involved in chapter events and activities.
Friday, June 10, 2016, marked the 125th anniversary of the Pittsburgh Chaper of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The DAR Pittsburgh Chapter holds Charter #1 in the National Society and owns and operates Pittsubrgh’s oldest architectural lnadmark, the Fort Pitt Block House.
This landmark is still privately owned and operated by the Fort Pitt Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution of Allegheny County Pennsylvania and receives no state or federal funding. It has remained free and open to the public since 1895; it is the only remnant left to remind us of Pittsburgh’s earliest history. Much of its architectural fabric is intact within the stone foundation, bricks and timber elements from its origianl 1764 construction. The Block House is listed as a National Historic Landmark, reiterating its importance to our nation’s history.
The ladies of the Pittsburgh Chaper are strong military supporters and the Chapter was honored to have the Marines presence.
